IF TODAY WAS YOUR LAST DAY
How would you spend your last day on earth?

If Today Was Your Last Day

The doctor's words shook the cages of my soul
It's not good, you won't make today
I'd already excepted that death was near
But it was still a shock for me to hear

Jumping up from that hospital bed
I discharge myself from the awful prison
Tearing the drips from my frail arm
Ignore the nurses, I'm already in way of harm

Need to enjoy my last day on planet Earth
Block away the pain and attempt to live
Let me leave this world like a firework, I pray
I refuse to simply fade away

And so I spend the day writing letters
So everyone knows how much I loved them
Forgive the family who disowned me, I won't leave with a heavy heart
Up in heaven, I want a fresh new start

Donate all my money to charity
It's the best place for it to go
Then I'll be making a difference when I'm gone
That way I can't go wrong

A gravestone stands tall in the middle of that field
And written on the grave
Apologies from the family who gave up on me
'We were blind but you made us see'

'Anger makes you smaller, while forgiveness forces you to grow beyond what you were'
'We love you, thank you for forgiving us'
And she looks down from heaven knowing she was loved
Smile so big, her family could almost see it as they look up above

I LOVE THIS POEM because it was really sweet and the way that the character in the poem didn't let death stop him from living his last day to the fullest is really inspiring. We should live each day like it's our last; forgive everyone and leave our mark on the world. Each day we are getting older and closer to the day we will pass away, but this mustn't make us sad. Because it just means that we will experience more.
